Olympia 2012

Well…… it has been one week since I stepped on stage at the 2012 Fitness Olympia in Las Vegas and what an amazing experience it was!!

For those who don’t know, the Olympia is considered by many to be the pinnacle of our sport. It’s the place where the best of the best strive to compete against one another.  Let me tell you…..it truly lived up to its billing.  The prestige of the event, the bright lights, the big city, the thousands and thousands of fans and spectators and most of all the highest level competition that I have ever faced.  It was all really something surreal to be a part of.

As far as expectations for my placing goes, I really hadn’t set any for my first Olympia.  Honestly,  I was so ecstatic to simply have qualified and less than 4 months after earning my pro card!  Who knows, that may even be some kind of record ;)  All joking aside, I was so extremely proud of that accomplishment that everything to come afterwards was really a bonus for me.  Actually, my goal for the 2012 Olympia was to just take in the whole experience, learn from my seasoned competitors, make some new friends and try to take away some amazing memories.  That is exactly what I did!!  As someone who is highly competitive, of course there was a small amount of disappointment that came with placing 14th, but I quickly reminded myself that I was competing amongst the best athletes in my sport from across the globe and by simply getting to step onto the Olympia stage I had already won.

My goal in this off season will be to start to making the improvements that I think are necessary to climb the ranks.  It will take time and hard work to establish myself amongst my competitors, but I know with dedication I will get there.  I am going to do everything I can to be on that Olympia stage once again in 2013!!

For now, the next challenge that I’m taking head on is the Arnold Europe in Madrid, Spain next week.  It is going to be another fantastic experience I’m sure, competing against many of the same girls that I just shared the stage with at the Olympia.  I’m looking forward to making some time to take in the sights and culture of Madrid, hang out with some of my new friends from the Olympia and take in what Spain has to offer.  I am truly blessed to be able to do what I love while experiencing different parts of the world.

It really is an amazing journey that I'm on and I keep telling myself, the best part is that it has only just begun.
