That’s A Wrap!

It’s been a month since I stepped on stage for my last show of the 2013 IFBB competitive season. It was an extremely busy and exciting year to say the least as I competed in 6 shows … yes 6, including the prestigious Arnold Fitness International and Joe Weider’s Fitness Olympia. With each new competition, I walk away learning a little bit more about myself both as a competitor and as a person and continue to challenge myself in ways I never thought possible. This year has had its challenges to say the least….

It started out with a broken rib the week leading up to the Arnolds. I managed to compete regardless of my injury but it’s certainly something I would never want to experience again - ouch. After taking some time to heal, I had the opportunity to compete in the first ever Arnold Classic Brasil where I placed 5th. It was an amazing experience and an honor to be part of this inaugural event. Next up……the Toronto Pro Supershow where I was fortunate enough to be able to compete at home on Canadian soil. This is the only IFBB sanctioned Canadian competition and truthfully one of my favorite shows to compete in each year as its close to my home and my heart. Following the Toronto show, I was faced with the decision of taking a much needed break and rest or giving it one last and final try at qualifying for the Fitness Olympia. It would mean another 2 months of dieting and intense training and no guarantees of the outcome but I knew I would be disappointed in myself if I didn’t give it all I had. Luckily, everything worked out as I had dreamed and my third place finish at the Tampa Pro earned me the precious Olympia qualifying series points I needed to capture my placing for the 2013 Fitness Olympia.

Even though this was my second year competing at the Olympia, it was no less exhilarating then it had been my rookie year. Earning the privilege to once again stand alongside the athletes I have admired for years is something that I will never take for granted. Throughout the Olympia weekend, I made a conscious effort to try and take in and enjoy every moment. Knowing that I had dedicated so much time and worked so hard to be there made it a dream come true. The vibe from the athletes at the Olympia is one of great pride and appreciation. There is only one champion crowned for each division, but I think it is safe to say each athlete feels victorious when they step on the Olympia Stage and are considered amongst the elite in their sport.

The year wrapped up with my second trip to Spain for the Arnold Classic Europe. To be able to travel across the world and compete in the sport you love is truly a blessing. The athletes are treated so well by the Arnolds Sports Festival and International Federation of Bodybuilding.   It’s always a seamlessly run event from start to finish and…….of course it is always fun getting to rub elbows with the man himself, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger!!!

With the end of a competitive year, it is time to step back and appreciate all that has been accomplished. It is important to take inventory of the missteps that were made and hopefully learn from them and set a plan in place for the year that is to come. I’ve sent in my athlete contract for the 2014 IFBB competitive season and I’m excited for the year to come. My coaches and I feel that we have put a strategy in place in order to enable me to continue to improve as an athlete and bring the best package I can to the stage. That will mean a lot of hard work and continued dedication but when you love what you do, that just means a whole lot of fun!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their continued love and support. I have the best family and friends who support me in my dreams.

I’ve included some pictures from the 2013 Fitness Olympia. It is hard to capture all the great moments from the weekend, but as you can see it is always a fun and exciting time. Stay tuned for more pictures from the Arnold Europe!!!
