Wings of Strength IFBB Chicago Pro Championships

Posted Jul 20th, 2014 in Competitions, Reflections

I wanted to be sure to do a recap on my experience competing at the July 5th Wings of Strength IFBB Chicago Pro Championships.

From start to finish it was an amazing weekend – the outcome of the competition, the amazing new people I met, the friends I was able to reunite with and the fantastic sights that Chicago has to offer.  Earning my first IFBB Pro Fitness win and a qualifying for the 50th Olympia is truly a dream come true.  Tim Gardner along with Jake and Kristal Wood of Wings of Strength with their amazing teams all ran a top notch event.  I definitely plan to be back next year to compete again!  My fellow IFBB Fitness Pros came out in full force and put on a great performance for the everyone in attendance .  It’s always an honour to be able to share the stage with these laies!  To be able to compete in the IFBB andlive out each day working towards my goals and aspirations is such a blessing and a privilege that I am so grateful for.

I had the opportunity to do an interview following my competition and I thought I would share with you some of my responses to the questions that were asked .  It helps me to sum up my overall experience of the first IFBB Pro Fitness win and a qualification for the 50th Olympia is truly a dream come true.

1.  Talk to us about what it felt like to win the Overall?

I’m completely overwhelmed by my win here in Chicago at the Wings of Strength IFBB Chicago Pro.  This was my first competition for the season since the Arnold Europe in October 2013.  After Spain, I took a step back to reassess and make some professional changes.  I started working with Hany Rambod and together we decided that it was time for an off season in order to make some improvements in my physique.  With a lot of hard work and consistency in the gym I was able to start to work towards the goals we had in mind.  I stepped on stage in Chicago with a renewed confidence and was proud of the package I was able to deliver.  My only expectation for this show was just to get back on stage and start showing the improvements I had been working so hard to make with my physique and routine. Walking away with a win was truly a dream come true for me.  This is my first IFBB Pro win and it is obviously a moment I will always cherish!!  The Chicago Pro will always hold a special place in my heart.

2. How long was your prep and what are your future plans, Olympia?

I am still trying to take in the events of the weekend!!!  Winning a pro competition has always been a dream and a goal of mine and I'm so thrilled with the results.  The next step now will be to sit down with my coach and discuss what the next competitions hold for me.  There is one last competition for the season in Tampa before the Olympia, so we’ll have to discuss what the best approach will be for me moving forward.

3. Who would you like to thank – shout-outs?

I certainly have an army of people to thank for my success this weekend.  First my coach, Hany Rambod and my choreographer Renzo Coste.  I truly feel I have surrounded myself by the best in the industry and they both have been instrumental in the success I have achieved thus far in my career.  My sponsors Peak Performance Products Inc., Pro Tan Competition, Aqua Hydrate and Maggie Suits.  I am so grateful and appreciative for their ongoing support.  Of course without a doubt, my husband Steve and my family and friends who support me day in and day out.  I am so fortunate to be surrounded by so many people that encourage me in my dreams and aspirations.

4.  Any message to the fans? Thank you to all of my fans who are supporting me.  The ongoing encouragement I receive is so inspirational and it really drives me to continue to make improvements each and every time I step on stage.  I hope you will continue to follow me on my website, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
